Liberal Democrats on Somerset County Council

Welcome to our Site

Welcome to the Somerset County Liberal Democrats' website. With 22 members, we are the main opposition group on Somerset County Council. Against the background of a massive anti-Labour swing to the right - which happened right across Europe - we achieved 36.6% of the vote. This was the highest recorded Lib Dem vote across the country on June 4th 2009, including the European elections, so puts us in a strong position to fight back.

It will be harder to achieve these in opposition but whenever we can, we will remind the public of them, sometimes through the Scrutiny process and Full Council.

The Tories at County Hall signed off cut after cut at their Cabinet meeting this morning, arguing that there's no room for 'nice to do' things in this year's budget.
