Welcome to the Somerset County Liberal Democrats' website and we hope you will find plenty here to interest you. There are news headlines, county success stories - some in 'Bitesize', if you want a quick overview - and recently published press articles. Do find out more about the councillor for your area by going to 'contact the councillors' and if you scroll down, you may find they also have their own individual web page. This tells you more about them and in particular, how they've been spending their Community Budget.

The 2007/8 figures show that Somerset's residents have taken on board the reduce, re-use, and recycle message from Somerset's Waste Action Partnership. We are now recycling a staggering 51% of our household waste! This saves around a tonne of waste going into landfill every four minutes (and saves a landfill tax of £32 per tonne) and puts the county in the top league, not only nationally, but across the world.

I found your front page report on Ian Liddell-Grainger's views where he implies by implication that the county council is being profligate with ratepayers' money, very much part of a pattern; perhaps even what passes for a strategy of his. He appears to be trying to undermine ratepayers' confidence in the county council's ability to manage the funds with which they are entrusted.
